Two significant updates at LinkedIn that could change Recruiting

November 4, 2010

This past week LinkedIn held a conference in San Francisco entitled InTalent. (don’t you just over this new language? Talent acquisition, talent hubs, untraining, etc.?)  I didn’t go, but often felt I was there as many leading social media recruiting types went and tweeted consistently.  Amazing, attendance by Twitter!

Two significant new developments occured at #InTalent that every recruiter should know….

One, LinkedIn announced that they are developing a ‘Referral Engine’ which will be launched in 2011. This will enable companies to operate a referral programme, giving employees and members of the company network, (followers), a vehicle for forwarding their connections for open jobs.  For a full explanation, here’s a link to Bill Boorman’s * recent blog on the topic:

Promising, eh?  I don’t believe it will sound a death knoll for third party recruiters immediately.  Many of Canada’s leading retail and hospitality companies have yet to embrace full utilization of LinkedIn as an essential recruiting tool.  But, like so many features on LinkedIn, it sure sounds cool.

The second LinkedIn development, being implemented as I type, is that now you can ‘recommend’ goods and services on LinkedIn Company Pages. Watch for the ‘Products and Services’ tab on your Company Page.  Recommendations work exceptionally well for all LinkedIn individuals – why not companies.  Full explanation from Ryan Roslansky at LinkedIn:

Wow. Recruiting, recruiters, and their ‘tools’ sure keep evolving and changing.  Hope all your tools are sharp.
