Brenda’s social media updates for the week
It’s difficult to absorb all the new developments, much less the original platforms with social media. Whether you are using social media for branding, recruiting, network development or aren’t using social media at all, learning enough to decide if its valuable for you and your business can nearly impossible.
And, for the first time, those who can advise on social media are coming from a wide variety of disciplines. Human Resources professionals can be as knowledgeable as any marketing or advertising professional on the subject of social media depending on your area of interest. Sometimes the guy in logistics has the best grasp of the value of a certain social media platform!
Here are links to a few recent articles from individuals recognized as astute in the various uses of social media:
Firstly, from Andy Headworth of Sirona Consulting in England, a great blog on using the Company Profiles on LinkedIn to recruit – a must read for anyone with recruiting in their job description: http://ht.ly/2FU4K
In fact, anything from Andy is well worth reading if you are using social media to recruit. You may consider signing up for his blog.
From Mike Stelzer at Social Media Examiner – How to Use Facebook and Twitter to Drive Traffic to Your Business – particularly valuable for Retailers and Hospitality companies. – http://ht.ly/2FUAu
Social Media Examiner is just a year old and went from $0 in revenue to over $1Million. The articles and webinars are that good and that valuable. If you are considering social media at any level in your company, this may be the one-stop shopping destination for information. Their webinars are superb and contain information for attendees of all levels. Nearly 2,000 of us worldwide, including me, have signed up for the upcoming Facebook Sucess Summit 2010 – see all details at or follow them on Twitter @smexaminer or ‘like’ their very informative Facebook page - SMExamineronFacebook
And no, I don’t know Mike, never met him, and I’m not getting a commission for this. Its the beauty of viral marketing from a satisfied customer.
And, my latest blog at www.brendadumont.com – ‘Veeeeery interesting statistics on LinkedIn useage’. This has turned out to be one of my most viewed blogs. Most of my blogs are written with beginner or novice to social media readers in mind. After all, my business is focused on helping these types of companies.
Finally, if you live in the Pacific Northwest and want to increase your social media knowledge, you should consider attending Social Media Camp in Victoria, BC. Over 400 of us have signed up for a full day on October 3rd of individual concurrent sessions for every level of individual coming from every type (well almost every type) of business. I am conducting a session on Social Media for Retailers. 100 more tickets left – all details at www.socialmediacamp.ca
Enjoy an excellent fall week. More tips and recommendations next week.
