Veeeery interesting statistics on LinkedIn useage
On Twitter this morning, courtesy of Glen Cathey via Omowale Casselle, an excellent website was revealed that lists LinkedIn’s demographics and visitor statistics. It is websites like these that PR firms and advertising agencies use to sound so knowledgeable to clients but anyone can access them. Here is a link to that valuable website:
Here’s a few key things I got out of reviewing those statistics:
- Holy Cow! More men use LinkedIn than women
- I thought the age, income, nationality, etc. statistics fell exactly where I thought they would. What about you?
- Maybe most important – Do you use the update section on LinkedIn to post jobs? Do you use the update section to inform connections and strengthen your credibility with information sharing? Well, if you are doing this mostly during traditional business hours you are missing out on approximately 65% of your audience because up to 65% of all LinkedIn members globally only check LinkedIn at home. The only way to ensure you are producing updates that will be easily read on the LinkedIn wall page of your connections is to either schedule it to appear after working hours through Hootsuite, or post those updates outside of traditional business hours.
- And, in that same vein, it seems that unless you are a recruiter who falls into the ‘Addict’ category of visiting LinkedIn more than 30 times per month (1%), the vast majority only visit up to 30 times per month or much, much less. Lesson learned? Better ensure that any time spent on those status updates on LinkedIn are in conjunction with many other methods more easily found and read.
- The Netherlands has more unique visitors to LinkedIn per month than Canada. What is it about those people from the Netherlands that makes them so, well, engaged?
The document is jammed packed with interesting stuff and I’ll leave you to read through it. You may want to bookmark the link – I certainly have.
